The Ride for Semper Fi

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

We’d like to give a shout out to our friends at The Ride for Semper Fi, a 430-mile cycling adventure that begins in Phoenix on October 13 and concludes three days later in San Diego.

The goal is to raise $177,500 for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund by the time the cyclists end the ride at Sea World on Oct. 16. In their words: “We are not professional athletes or career fundraisers, but we are people who want to give back to those Marines who have sacrificed so much of themselves in order to fight for our country.” For more information, visit the Ride for Semper Fi web site.

During a recent market trip to Arizona, we met one of the riders, Joshua Aylesworth. He invited us to donate some wine for the ride’s upcoming fundraising event on October 2, and we obliged, of course. We wish Joshua and all of his fellow riders happy trails as they pedal west for a great cause!

A New Look for Jarhead Red

Monday, July 12th, 2010

The 2008 vintage christens a new label design for Jarhead Red, one that builds upon the earlier label while incorporating fresh new elements.

The new Jarhead Red label features the “digital camouflage” pattern seen on the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform, in keeping with Jarhead Red’s positioning as a wine for “everyday” enjoyment.

Our Jarhead Reserve label will reveal a similar evolution with the release of the 2008 vintage later this summer. The new Jarhead Reserve label echoes the “dress blues” that are worn in more formal settings, in keeping with the wine’s “reserve” status.

Inside the bottle, of course, the wine remains the same: intense flavors, fine structure, and a finish that doesn’t quit.

We hope you like the new look, and we are looking forward to your feedback.

Strong as Its Namesake

Friday, May 28th, 2010

The bottle of Jarhead Red didn't breakThanks to Dan Murray, friend of Jarhead Wine Company, for sending us the following note and accompanying photo in the wake of the recent earthquake near the border:

“I’m writing from my hootch in El Centro, CA. We got hit pretty hard with that 7.2 earthquake. My house was pretty trashed, but a bottle of Jarhead Red that a fellow Marine gave me fell five feet and landed on a tile floor, and did not break! A lot of other stuff broke, but your bottle survived.  I took a picture when we first walked in the house.  Semper Fidelis!”
